Short answer. Whitening products work on certain stains on natural teeth, but the response varies. The ADA notes that they do not change the color of crowns, veneers or fillings. That is why Dental Nakeji recommends an evaluation first and a plan based on each case.
Why can the result vary?
Not all discoloration has the same cause. Some responds better to whitening than others; discoloration related to injuries or medications may behave differently. If you have visible restorations, the final color of your natural teeth may not match them.
Health comes before color
The dentist checks the condition of your mouth and listens to what you expect from the treatment. That conversation shows whether whitening is appropriate and what its limits would be. It is not advisable to promise an exact shade or to assume everyone will see the same change.
Questions for your visit
Ask what type of stains you have, whether your restorations would affect how the result looks and what care would be right for you. The answer should be based on an examination of your mouth.
